This is a good time for those who want to buy Victor Lindelof from Benfica.
With a €30m release clause, the player has been receiving attention from several European clubs, and is involved in transfer rumours everyday.
In an article from A Bola, a few sides who have been linked to the defender lately are run through: Manchester United, Chelsea, PSG, Inter Milan, Juventus, Napoli and Wolfsburg.
All this interest has made Benfica take a decision: they must renew Lindelof’s contract quickly.
The negotiations are happening, according to the newspaper. The big goal is to raise the player’s release clause, setting the new one on €60m.
Benfica want to do it quickly, so the defender would already have a new price in the January market and the club would be protected from losing an important player in the middle of the season.
Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte have both repeatedly been linked with defensive options, but perhaps the Lindelof interest is wishful thinking for the player. The links seemed to start in the Swedish media, giving a clue to source, and are leading to a new contract and higher wages.
A summer sale isn’t ruled out. Benfica know it’s uncommon to make close to €60m from a defender, and would therefore be interested. A Bola claims that a deal would be possible, as long as the interested clubs show up with something close to the new release clause.
The Swedish defender isn’t worth €60m, even in today’s market.
