Wahbi Khazri has been named in Gazzetta dello Sport’s European Team of the Week.
Every Monday the grand old Italian newspaper pick a selection of the best performers from around Europe, whilst ignoring their own Serie A, and the Sunderland owned player has found his way in there.
Khazri helped Rennes to a 2-0 victory over Bordeaux at the weekend, getting an assist and making himself the Man of the Match.
Not so long ago Khazri was being edged out of Sunderland and now he’s in a European Team of the Week which includes world stars such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Mo Salah.
This is good for Sunderland from a transfer fee perspective, the better Khazri does between now and the summer the more clubs he’s going to attract and therefore the higher his price is likely to be.
French newspaper L’Equipe reported at the weekend that Khazri’s value could rise as high as €15m if he ends the season well, but they are speculated it could drop to around a third of that if Sunderland are relegated and become desperate for the money.
The bad news for Sunderland is thinking what may have been.
