Pierluigi Gollini has revealed the chance to play for a club like Aston Villa in front of 40 thousand fans was a reason he today signed for the club. The former Manchester United youth player has just spent the past two seasons at Hellas Verona.

Speaking to Sky Sports News the 21-year-old goalkeeper confirmed there were other clubs looking to sign him after Verona were relegated to Serie B last season, but he said he couldn’t turn down the chance to play under Roberto Di Matteo.

“I go to a very glorious club with a stadium with 40 thousand seats. I want to thank Verona for these two years. There were several interested, Di Matteo wanted me strongly and I think he will give me a great opportunity,” said the youngster.

Gollini completed his move to Aston Villa for a fee of €5m. Despite Verona’s relegation last season, the young keeper was one of the pluses of their poor campaign.
