Championship results being highlighted in Portugal. That’s not something we’d expect to see a few years ago, but it’s become a reality for a while now.
Wolves’ campaign under Nuno Espírito Santo continues being in the spotlight in the manager’s home country, and it couldn’t be any different after the club thrashed Leeds United 4-1 last night.
Big sports newspapers such as A Bola, Record and O Jogo all have stories about the game today, highlighting how good Wolves have been in the race for Premier League promotion, and hyping the team up at Leeds United’s expense.
Record calls the result ‘à portuguesa’, while O Jogo says Wolves are ‘going off ahead’ on top of the table, and A Bola highlights ‘another show of strength’ from the club.
Besides Espírito Santo, the Portuguese media are obviously giving Wolves a lot of attention because of the local players doing well for the club. In yesterday’s win over Leeds United, Ruben Neves, Ivan Cavaleiro and Diogo Jota all started, with Helder Costa coming on as a sub as well.
Wolves beating Leeds may have been very much Championship business, but it’s encouraged some Portuguese pride.
