Brazilian side Fluminense this week presented Marcão as their new manager. With coach Odair Hellmann getting a big offer from Dubai, the club chose a homegrown solution to replace him.
Marcão has been working for the Rio de Janeiro side for over ten years, following his time as a player there as well, in seasons when he was a teammate of Thiago Silva.
And in his press conference yesterday, the manager revealed that he’s been in touch with the Chelsea player, and even invited him to join him at the club.
“Right on time, he [Thiago] saw the message and said: ‘I’m going there to assist you,” said Marcão (via Globo Esporte).
“I said: ‘Hey! Not as an assistant, come to play here, come to help us, you’ll be very welcome’ (laughs). A great affection, we exchange messages every day.
“Somehow, we help out there. And in the same way he helps here. God willing, soon he’ll be here with us too, being able to help on the pitch.”
Just like most Brazilian players in Europe, Thiago Silva has never closed the doors to a return to his country, even though he’d obviously only do it in the final stage of his career.
Still, he recently gave an interview to the Brazilian media claiming he’s seeking a contract renewal with Chelsea, so the Blues should rest assured that his return to Fluminense is unlikely to happen so soon.
