It seems that Crystal Palace’s chase for the Espanyol goalkeeper Diego López wouldn’t be a crazy idea after all.

The rumours started in the English press this Monday, saying the London side would be confident to sign the player in the January window.

And as a reaction to that, Catalan outlet Sport shows that the move would make quite some sense for the 36-year-old.

They claim that Lopez ‘isn’t going through his best time’ at Espanyol, where he’s been sitting on the bench for most of the season.

It’s said that the Spanish club have no doubts about his abilities, but the form of the ex-Tottenham goalkeeper Pau Lopez makes it difficult for the manager to start Diego.

Lopez would have a starting position ‘assured’ under Roy Hodgson at Crystal Palace, Sport writes, and ‘wouldn’t have to worry’ about getting a spot in the team.

But things wouldn’t be easy for Palace, as Sport recalls that last summer, the keeper signed a new deal with Espanyol, which runs until 2020 and includes a €50m release clause.
