As Napoli goalkeeper Alex Meret was today interviewed by Radio Kiss Kiss, he made a few comments on the clash the Serie A side had with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s Rangers in the Champions League this week.
Despite the expected difficulty for his game, the Italian side still managed to get out of Glasgow with a 3-0 win at Ibrox, with all goals found in the final part of the match.
So speaking to the local media, Meret made it clear that Rangers were a tough opponent to play against, showing how proud he was to have made a crucial save in a play which could’ve changed the course of the game.
“Surely it was a stop, important for the minute of the match and for how it got in the first few minutes when they pushed a lot thanks to their support,” said Meret (via Per Sempre Napoli).
“It was difficult because Kim was there to disturb the view a bit, but I saved it and it was an important intervention because he kept the result at 0-0 and then we did well in the second half to win.”
Meret was also quizzed about the atmosphere at Ibrox, claimed that Rangers’ fans can really help the team to win games.
“Their support was incredible, there was a warm atmosphere and even the opposing team had more courage thanks to the people, they pressed high. But we were good at keeping calm, playing our game and breaking it in the second half. Then with the extra man it was easier to manage. It was a test of maturity, we remained lucid and did what we had to do.”
Following the first two fixtures in the Champions League, Napoli are currently top of Group A, as they are the only club there to have won their first two matches.
They’re followed by Liverpool and Ajax, with three points each, and Rangers stay at the bottom, with two defeats and a goal difference of -7 so far.
