Manchester City target Matheus Nunes held on Tuesday a press conference with the Portuguese national team, and given the many rumours about his move out of Sporting this summer, he was obviously asked about this future.
It turns out the midfielder sounded very confident that he’d like to stay at the Lisbon side for longer, not giving a chance to any speculation about a change of clubs in the coming months.
“My goal is to fulfil the contract,” said Nunes (via Correio da Manhã).
“I have a contract with Sporting, there is no point in transferring me. I’m happy at Sporting. The Portuguese League is a great league.”
Covering the quotes, newspaper Correio da Manhã points out that Nunes has been linked to Manchester City, recalling the public compliments that Pep Guardiola made to him when the clubs faced each other in the Champions League.
It’s said the midfielder is considered a ‘nuclear player’ for Sporting boss Ruben Amorim, and the club management are already aware of that.
That’s why for Manchester City or any other clubs to take him out of the club, the Lions will only accept offers they can’t refuse, which means of over €40m.
The player is protected with a release clause of €60m, in a contract until 2026.
