Former Brondby defender Mikkel Bischoff has urged Kasper Schmeichel to quit Leicester City in the summer. The Denmark international signed a new contract with the Premier League champions last summer, but has recently been linked with other clubs.

Plbold have reported on comments Bischoff made when asked about his thoughts on Schmeichel’s future. The former Denmark U21 thinks now he’s done all he can at Leicester City, and now needs to move on. Bischoff said Schmeichel has proven he can perform at the highest level, and links to the likes of Real Madrid aren’t absurd.

“I would say that he has to go. He can’t achieve more in Leicester. Now he has won the English championship with Leicester, which was completely insane. He’s played in the Champions League with Leicester and done well. Now he’ll need to take the next step up, and it’s great that he is mentioned along with Real Madrid,” said Bischoff on the Leicester City star.

Schmeichel was a key figure in Leicester City’s title win last season, and unlike some of his teammates he’s maintained his form in this campaign. The Dane was instrumental in Leicester City getting to the quarter finals of the Champions League, but the Premier League side could have a fight to keep hold of him in the next window.
