RB Leipzig have their eye on Rangers star Ianis Hagi after losing new signing Dominik Szoboszlai to injury.

The Hungarian joined the Bundesliga side from Red Bull Salzburg earlier this month but is yet to make his debut for his new club.

That will remain the case for a while longer, with the player recently confirming he is suffering from adductor problems and is targeting a return in February.

That, according to Digisport, has seen Leipzig renew their interest in Rangers star Hagi as the look for an alternative to the Austrian.

They report that Hagi is ‘considered the ideal option’ by the German side because he is an offensive midfielder who can play centrally or wide, is a ‘good fixed phase performer’ and an ‘excellent passer’.

Those are similar qualities to what Szoboszlai possesses while the fact he is a younger talent who can be polished means he also fits into the profile of player that Leipzig like to sign.

There’s no mention of an asking price, or any contact with Rangers about a move, just that they are keen on him given Szoboszlai’s injury issues.

Steven Gerrard’s side are unlikely to want to sell, nor are they in any need to give Hagi only joined permanently in the summer and has a contract until 2024.

Still, it appears the interest is there, and this may be one to keep an eye on as the January transfer window starts to ramp up.
