Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has been out of action for the club since the end of November.
He is currently recovering from an ankle injury and in his absence Spurs have struggled for form and it also pushed them into signing another goalkeeper in Antonin Kinsky. Despite that, there has been a lack of stability between the sticks.
It remains to be seen when Vicario will return to action for Tottenham, the 28-year-old has now spoken to Messaggero Veneto about his recovery and goals for the season.
In his chat with the outlet, the Italian said: “The rehabilitation process is going well, I’m getting better and better and I want to be ready for the decisive phase of the season.”
Speaking further, he said: “On Thursday in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup my teammates will have to defend the 1-0 from the first leg at Anfield against Liverpool, then we will have the FA Cup and the Europa League in which we placed in the top eight.
“And then we have to climb back up in the Premier League, our fans are not used to seeing us like this in the back row.”
Vicario was also asked about his goals for Tottenham this season. He said that he wants to play in the Super Cup final in his hometown of Udine at the start of next season.
The Italy international said: “There’s no point in denying it: I dream of playing that match. It would mean that Tottenham have won the Europa League, our big but very tough goal of the season for which there are still seven games to go.”
He also spoke of his intentions to win the Europa League with Ange Postecoglou’s side: “On May 21st we want to go and play the final in Bilbao and win it, then being in Udine on August 13th would be the best. In the fall I made my debut for the national team against Israel at Friuli, playing in a European final there would be the crowning of a dream.”
Before his injury, the goalkeeper had played every game in the Premier League. Also last season, he played every game in the top flight.
He’s also grown as a leader in the past couple of seasons, and his return later in the season will be a big boost for Tottenham which can prove key in their hunt for European glory.
