Ruben Amorim has been warned to get used to not going on long winless streaks with Manchester United as he did with Sporting Club de Portugal.

CNN commentator Nuno Farinha provides the comments today, via Mais Futebol, sending a small warning to the Manchester United boss after his side were beaten 2-0 by Arsenal on Wednesday.

The Gunners ran out comfortable winners in the meeting at the Emirates, bagging two goals from corner routines to continue their dominance from set pieces.

It was a miserable evening for Manchester United, who never really threatened Mikel Arteta’s side and were unable to build on their 4-0 win over Everton at the weekend.

It was a first glimpse of how they will fare against the bigger sides under Amorim, who had so far taken on two relegation threatened sides in Everton and Ipswich.

While there were some positives, most have taken the result as a clear indication of where Manchester United are and the work the Portuguese coach will have to do to get them to the level most expect them to be at.

It was also a first taste of defeat for Amorim in the Premier League but also for some time as a coach, with his Sporting side having won all 11 league games this season and only lost to Porto in the   Supertaça Cândido de Oliveira all the way back in August.

Long unbeaten runs were common for him in Portugal, but Farinha has warned him to forget about them with Manchester United.

“They did some things and some things went well, but you can also feel, and it was always felt, that there was still a lot to do,” he said.

“(It was) Ruben Amorim’s first defeat in a long time. Ruben Amorim’s last defeat had been precisely in the first official game of the season, against Porto. It was a surprise, because he hadn’t lost a game in four months.

“Anyway, in England he will have to get used to the fact that it is very difficult to have such long series, they will surely lose more times. Manchester will not be unbeatable with Ruben Amorim, but I also think that no one has doubts that he has all the conditions to make Manchester a much stronger team.

“The big question everyone has, I believe that even he does, is if Manchester is at the level of the best Manchester we remember, is a team capable of winning the Premier League and a team capable of competing in the Champions League at the highest level.”
