Bild have a Thursday evening article on Reece Oxford potentially moving to Borussia Monchengladbach, and it’s rather dramatic.
The 19 year old moved to the Bundesliga club last summer on loan and was then brought back by West Ham during the January window.
In Germany it was reported the Hammers were looking for a big fee from Gladbach during the winter window or keen to sell Oxford elsewhere.
Once Oxford made a West Ham appearance, in the FA Cup against Shrewsbury, it meant he couldn’t be sent to another club because he’d already represented two that season. Then a loan return to the German side followed, and it’s been thought for a while they want to sign him permanently.
Bild state Gladbach general manager Max Eberl is on a ‘secret mission’ to sign the player, and that West Ham ‘urgently’ need to make some money because they’re under FFP pressure having signed several players this summer.
It’s claimed the Premier League club have been demanding €19m for Oxford, and Eberl has suggested €16m to the Hammers.
Bild even believe a deal could be announced very quickly.
Eberl is quoted as saying “We keep our eyes open and are immediately able to act if there is a chance for us.”
The German newspaper state the chance seems to be there now. It’s not clear whether they’ve got the FFP claim from Eberl or come up with it themselves.
