Manchester United supporters have now been put through over a year of rumours regarding the club’s interest in Jadon Sancho.
Ahead of the summer 2020 window, many of the claims felt like they were without much basis, with endless vague claims made by various sources about what was going on behind the scenes.
Much of the media closest to Borussia Dortmund was much calmer, insisting the Bundesliga club’s deadline and €120m asking would not be changed. That didn’t seem to be seriously tested, with BVB later confirming that no offer had arrived from Old Trafford anyway.
Sancho had struggles at the start of the 2020/21 season and received criticism from some in the German media, with suggestions he wasn’t fully focused on his task in Dortmund.
Things changed as 2021 started, and the 22-year-old finished the season with 16 goals and 20 assists in 38 matches. He scored twice in the DFB-Pokal final, as his club beat RB Leipzig 4-2, winning Dortmund’s first major trophy since 2017.
Well, it appears that the deal is now on the verge of happening, as Bild are reporting the deal between Manchester United and Borussia Dortmund for Sancho is ‘about to close’ and everything can now happen ‘very quickly’.
According to the German outlet, the two sides have ‘converged in the battle’ for the England star, and ‘an agreement is very likely in the next few days’.
After an initial offer of €70m, the Red Devils ‘have now followed up, offering close to the required €90m’.
It seems Manchester United have offered €85m for the player, if Bild’s mid-article break of ‘85 million euros – Sancho deal about to close!’ is to be believed, although the format of that fee isn’t revealed in this particular article.
