The Jerome Boateng to Manchester United rumour is a curious one.
Clearly being pushed by sources close to Bayern Munich, it was claimed an approach was made by the Premier League club on Sunday.
Since then there’s not been a real update. Sure, there’s been several more articles, but nothing really tangible.
Now Bild have something genuinely new.
The German newspaper claims Manchester United have only offered €25m for the central defender. That presents a rather big problem, because Bayern have been looking for a fee as high as €50m.
It’s even claimed that Jose Mourinho’s club initially thought of a loan move, but Bayern knocked that back.
Manchester United are wanting to pay a relatively low fee because the transfer would cost them a great deal in wages, with Boateng wanting €14m a year until 2021.
This could be a case of Bayern pushing the player towards Old Trafford and then getting a reply they may not have been expecting.
