Pep Guardiola was very diplomatic on Friday when asked about Manchester City interest in Holger Badstuber. He said he likes Badstuber, but didn’t confirm or deny Manchester City are trying to sign the player.
Badtsuber is looking to leave Bayern Munich, probably on loan with a possible contract extension before he goes.
German newspaper Bild are now reporting that Schalke have joined the race and could be the team where Badstuber ends up. Schalke have been hit by injuries this season and Badstuber may well get more game time there than he would at Manchester City.
Whichever club he joins, the important thing for Badstuber is to stay fit.
Since the 2011/2012 season, the 27 year old hasn’t once hit 1000 Bundesliga minutes in a season. Over the past four seasons, including the current one, Badstuber has managed a total of 1267 Bundesliga minutes. In comparison, Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has managed 5693 Premier League minutes in that time.
Bild mention Manchester City interest once again, but they suggest Schalke could be edging ahead.
