Liverpool’s quest for a new central defender probably shouldn’t have gone down to the wire, yet it seems a fresh injury to Joel Matip encouraged the Reds to try and find a new option for Jurgen Klopp.
The Merseyside club have been linked with several potential signings and that continues on deadline day, with claims coming from various countries about players they could get through the door today.
Now there’s a fresh claim from Sky Germany, and it’s quite exciting.
They report Liverpool are trying to sign Ozan Kabak from Schalke before the window closes, and are in active talks to do so. They want to take the defender on loan and have an option to buy in the summer.
Schalke would need to bring a replacement in, and given the German window closes at 5pm that makes it even more difficult for them to sign a defender today than it is for the current Premier League champions.
