Pierre-Michel Lasogga is getting plenty of coverage in the German media this week, given his good goalscoring run for Leeds United.
Another goal midweek against Derby County seems to have been the prompt for tales of regret and a little optimism for the future.
Lasogga has so far in 2018 scored more goals for Leeds than Hamburg’s squad has scored between them, so there’s something quite bittersweet about it all.
Hamburger Morgenpost have seen the Euro signs, and say Lasogga’s performances are catching attention in England.
However, Lasogga’s performances haven’t managed to drag Leeds United out of the ‘grey mediocrity’ of mid table, and Mopo believe the club will ‘probably miss the play-offs’.
That combined with the very real threat HSV are on their way to relegation, and it presents a situation for Mopo which sees a possible sale to another English club.
Lasogga’s goals are ‘worth their weight in gold’ for Hamburg, because ‘clubs from the island’ are seeing the striker firsthand, and would then presumably send HSV a big chink of money.
Hamburg are again going through a difficult situation.
As well the relegation and financial problems, Friday’s front page of MoPo is taken by youth player Vasilie Janjicic, who caused a big crash this week driving his Mercedes at 160km/h (double the limit) through the Elbe Tunnel. He didn’t have a licence, was drink driving, and then lied to the police by giving his twin’s information.
Luckily nobody was seriously hurt.
