Chelsea have become the latest club to be credited with an interest in Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski.
The striker’s contract expires in 2023 and for the past few weeks, multiple reports have stated he wants to leave the Bavarian club for Barcelona.
In the last few days, claims from the British press have talked about the possibility of Chelsea taking the 33-year-old.
Bild have relayed these claims and then provide their own information on the west London club’s chances of landing the former Borussia Dortmund star.
Barcelona are ‘clear favourites’ to acquire the Poland international’s services. ‘Only’ if the La Liga side fail to find an agreement with Bayern, ‘would Chelsea have a chance’ to sign the frontman.
Lewandowski’s agent Pini Zahavi offered his client to the Blues last summer, but Thomas Tuchel’s side were unable to take him away from the Bundesliga winners. This saw them sign Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan.
Bayern, meanwhile, have looked at the Belgium international in the past. A swap deal could be put on the table and this topic ‘could only get hot’ if the Premier League side are ‘really ready to give up’ Lukaku. This is ‘currently a crazy rumour’.
The Pole’s first option is to sign for Barcelona and he ‘simply has no desire’ for a move to the Premier League.
In other words, Chelsea can only have the option to sign Lewandowski if Barca fail to find an agreement with Bayern. If that were to happen, then the Blues will still have to convince the player to make a switch to England.
Lewandowski has 50 goals and seven assists from 46 matches in all competitions this season.
