Aston Villa’s win over Bayern Munich hasn’t gone down very well in Germany.
It was Vincent Kompany’s first loss of the season and it came due to Jhon Duran’s excellent strike for Unai Emery’s side in the second half.
The German press, always looking for Bayern drama, are a little concerned about the loss and BILD have expressed some confusion about Bayern goalkeeper Manuel Neuer’s reaction to being beaten by Villa’s Colombian striker. They believe that the veteran is refusing to see the goal as his mistake.
After the game, Neuer had spoken to DAZN about the goal and said: “I think anyone who has seen all of our games so far knows that I have played like that in every game.
“So it’s a bit like our game, especially when we have the ball and also when we are away from it. I think he hit it very well. Maybe I can stand two metres further back, but it would still be uncertain whether I would get it.”
The Germany stopper was impressed by the strike and is unsure whether he could have stopped it, even if he was in the right position.
There’s a desire in the German media to find a way to explain the loss, and whilst a lot of blame is being edged towards Harry Kane – who Bild say was invisible – Neuer’s comments have confused some.
