As we’ve said many times this year, there’s a big campaign in the Mexican media for Raul Jimenez to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Journalists, coaches and former footballers have all been claiming the striker deserves a big move, and it’s funny how these stories pop up nearly every week.
Now it was time for German legend Lothar Matthaus to surprisingly join the discussion. The 1990 World Cup winner has been interviewed by Fox Sports at the weekend, and when speaking of Mexican talent, he said Raul Jimenez has the potential for something bigger.
“If he continues to play at this high level at the end of the season, there could be great interest from several bigger teams in England than Wolverhampton,” he said.
“I like Mexico in general and Mexican players. A good Mexican soccer player can compete anywhere in Europe, in the best leagues, in England, Italy, Spain or Germany.”
Despite having the vast majority claiming Jimenez is good enough to play for a top club, not all agree with that. Last month, speaking to ESPN, former Mexican striker Luis Garcia claimed that the Wolves star ‘can’t sit at the same table’ as the likes of Sergio Aguero, Luis Suarez, Karim Benzema, Harry Kane and Robert Lewandowski.
