Lyon’s interest in Xherdan Shaqiri has been covered repeatedly by the French media, with things going a little quiet in recent days.

When the claims of interest in the Liverpool player first came to light, the media close to Lyon made it clear there’d be two issues standing in the way of a potential move.

Firstly, the fee the Reds will be asking for the Swiss international, and secondly the wages he currently earns at Anfield.

It would appear there’s been no progress on the transfer fee front, with Le Progres reporting the ‘gap is significant’ between Liverpool and Lyon when it comes to transfer fee.

Negotiations have started, although it doesn’t appear there’s been much progress on getting Shaqiri to the Ligue 1 side. According to Le Progres, Lyon are hopeful that things will become easier as the transfer deadline approaches.

They believe ‘common ground’ will be easier find as the time left remaining in the market quickly reduces, so are clearly expecting Jurgen Klopp’s side to reduce their demands.
