French newspaper L’Equipe on Friday once again have a feature on the future of Rachid Ghezzal. The Lyon player still hasn’t signed a contract renewal, and is still sending confusing signs about what his intentions are.
The French newspaper reiterate that Everton had a €13m offer accepted for the player, and that Ronald Koeman’s club offered him €400k per month gross, twenty times what he’s currently earning with Lyon. Still, Ghezzal turned it down, feeling he could attract a better football project.
Since then things haven’t changed much, with L’Equipe saying ‘tough’ negotiations have failed to get Lyon anywhere so far. The situation is described as a soap opera, but it’s stated Ghezzal’s representatives have denied contact with other clubs and still give preference to a renewal with Lyon.
Lyon showed by accepting Everton’s offer that they simply don’t trust that line of thinking.
Atletico Madrid are now said to be keen and whilst Ronald Koeman will still have some sort of interest in the situation, he won’t want Everton to be used further by a footballer potentially playing games to get a better deal.
