If Tuttosport are to be believed, Juventus wanted Erling Braut Haaland in the winter market, but he preferred the ‘rich engagement’ and release clause which Borussia Dortmund provided.

In reality, Juventus can pay wages just as high as Dortmund, especially when the tax advantages for foreigners in Italy are considered. This is a club which has Cristiano Ronaldo, and a record of handing out huge contracts to free signings.

Missing out on Haaland means Juve will look for a striker in the summer, and that’s where Manchester City come in. Mauro Icardi is a controversial target, considered the PSG loan player is still owned by Inter Milan, and he’s joined by Gabriel Jesus and Timo Werner.

Tuttosport believe Manchester City should give up a few players in the summer, depending on what happens with their UEFA ban.

Gabriel Jesus was already a target for Juventus before he swapped Palmeiras for Manchester City, and is ‘particularly appreciated’ by those in charge at the Turin club.

Given the two clubs had good relations last summer, for the Cancelo/Danilo deal, it’s hoped that could provide the basis for negotiations, however, it’s worth noting this is all at the planning stage right now.
