With Middlesbrough FC interested in Viktor Gyökeres, Coventry City will have been preparing for some sort of assault from Teesside.
However, Mark Robins made it clear that he wanted to keep the Swedish striker around, sending a message to his board that the 24-year-old should not be sold at any price in January.
Coventry currently sit 11th in the Championship, and are three spots above Middlesbrough, which gives them a further excuse not to weaken themselves to league rivals.
Either way, the quotes from Robins reached Gyökeres, who is currently with the Sweden squad ahead of facing Mexico in a friendly, and the forward commented on them to the local media.
Relayed by Fotbollskanalen, he said: “It’s fun that he thinks I’m worth so much. It feels good. I have gained a lot of trust from him, and I appreciate that.”.
Asked if he wanted to leave, he added: “We’ll see, but I feel good in Coventry. I get to play a lot. It’s important to play a lot and be important in the team. Don’t just move for the sake of moving.”
The outlet explain the Coventry City star could even start the game alongside Anthony Elanga against Mexico, seemingly as a reward for his fine form in the Championship, where he is currently joint top scorer.
This is why Middlesbrough seemingly want to sign him, but it appears it could take some convincing to prise the player away from the Coventry Building Society Arena.
Gyökeres is happy where he is, and it could be the Riverside club might need to wait until the summer to make their move.
