The world is full of stories about Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa, and whilst not all of them will be completely accurate, it’s pretty certain the Elland Road boss lives up to his El Loco nickname.
With Leeds top of the Championship at Christmas and looking well placed for promotion to the Premier League, Bielsa and his work is getting even more attention around the world.
The past week has seen the story of Bielsa asking Leeds to sort him out sleeping and cooking facilities at the training ground, so it becomes more of a home, and now Benjamin Mendy has shared his own story.
Sometimes quite loco himself, Mendy spoke to France’s Canal+ at the weekend, and his quotes have been picked up by Le Figaro.
The fullback has explained Leeds’ boss will even drop his own assistants from travelling if he doesn’t feel they’ve been up to scratch in the week before a match.
“Concerning his staff, if he says that you have to place a cone at 10 metres and you place it at 11 metres, maybe because of that you will not be selected in the group to go on the next trip with the team. His staff had to work well during the week to be in the group. The first game of the season we did was a friendly and we left with only a doctor. He did not even speak our language and there was no assistant coach. The others hadn’t done a good enough job.”
Let that be a warning to the cone placers at Leeds United.
