When the transfer of Victor Lindelof to Manchester United was officially announced by Benfica, the Portuguese club said he was leaving on a fee of €35m, with the possibility of a further €10m being paid in performance bonuses.
These bonuses were not disclosed, but Portuguese newspaper A Bola has a story today saying they know the breakdown, or kind of know, as their information isn’t exactly accurate.
The highlight in their article is that Benfica can easily get half of the bonuses. That’s because €5m will be paid after Lindelof reaches a certain number of appearances, something that the newspaper is pretty confident he will.
The other part, however, is a little more difficult. They say these bonuses are related to individual prizes, and being part of the FIFA FIFPro World XI is one of them.
From now on, it’s likely the Portuguese press will start treating the transfer as a €40m deal, feeling the first bonuses will fly through, and the second set are more complicated.
