Everyone at Barcelona is in agreement that Philippe Coutinho must be the club’s first choice for a January transfer. Mundo Deportivo report that ‘consensus’ has been reached in the back-room, and technical director Robert Fernandez is especially convinced Coutinho is the player Barcelona need.
That said, Liverpool still aren’t ‘laying out the red carpet’ for a move, report the Catalan newspaper, and as much as Coutinho made an effort during the summer, there seems to be an increasing worry that Jurgen Klopp and co can’t be forced to do anything.
Mundo Deportivo state, given how there’s widespread agreement the Liverpool transfer is what Barcelona need, there’s now a ‘demand’ for action to get the Brazilian.
There’s no need to give up in November, but Barcelona want a back-up plan, and they’re narrowing that down.
Several players have been linked recently, and right now it’s Mesut Ozil at the top of the pile. The Arsenal star is being targeted for several reasons, including his contract situation, but he’s a long way from Coutinho’s status as first choice.
