Arriving on loan from Fulham in the summer, few expected André-Frank Zambo Anguissa to perform as well as he has done for Napoli.
It was always clear that he is a good player, having shown as much at Marseille and Villarreal in the past, but he took to Italian football like a duck to water, which immediately made the €15m pre-agreed option to buy look like a great deal.
Talk of Napoli triggering it to keep the Fulham midfielder beyond the current season has been rife throughout the campaign, and Paolo Bargiggia, speaking to 1 Football Club on 1 Station Radio, relayed by Napolipiu, explained the current situation.
He said: “It’s now clear, Napoli want to redeem Anguissa. De Laurentiis’ club broke the delay and will pay the amount that was established in the beginning. So Fulham will be paid €15m for the Anguissa transfer.”
Not only that, the journalist also made it clear that the fee would be paid ‘regardless of everything else’ that goes on at the Italian club going forward, meaning the player is a priority for Luciano Spalletti and co.
Of course, these are just words, and actions speak louder than those, but it’s promising for Fulham, who will be somewhat glad to make some of their initial £22m investment back, even if there could now be a feeling that €15m is too little after his performances this season.
