Released from his contract after ‘flipping the bird’ at Zenit St Petersburg fans who came to watch a reserves game, Yohan Mollo is now expected to ply his trade in the Championship.

According to L’Equipe in France, the former Saint-Etienne winger, who has spent the past two years in Russia between KS Samara and Roberto Mancini’s side.

The French newspaper report that the 28-year-old is expected to sign a one year contract at Craven Cottage, with the option to extend his stay by another season if the club wish to do so.

Mollo will undergo his medical ahead of his transfer to Slavisa Jokanovic’s side on Thursday afternoon.

L’Equipe also reveal that in order to get their man, the Cottagers had to see off some competition, notably Nantes in France, who tried to lure him with a low-cost deal, which clearly didn’t go down too well.

During his 172 appearances in Ligue 1 with Monaco, Nancy, Caen and Saint-Etienne, the French winger scored 21 goals and picked up 31 assists.

In Russia? Six goals and 10 assists in 42 games.
