Fulham are ‘close’ to a deal for PSV Eindhoven defender Timo Baumgartl, with the defender set to arrive on loan.

The Cottagers have been desperately searching for a new centre-back all summer, with Scott Parker having identified that as a weak area of his team.

They have failed to add the players that the Cottagers boss wants, though, with Fulham owner Shahid Khan recently confirming that they’ve missed out on several targets already.

That has led to them going on a mad trolley dash at the end of the window, with rumours linking them to various defenders around Europe.

One of those linked was Baumgartl, who was named as a serious candidate recently in the English press.

Tuttomercatoweb now say there has been progress in the talks between the two clubs, claiming that the German is ‘close’ to a move to Fulham.

They state that the ‘transfer formula’ will be a loan with a right of redemption, although it is not made clear what price the purchase option has been set at.

Either way, it seems Fulham are closing in on at least one centre-back, with Baumgartl on the verge of completing a move.
