Despite a lot of talk that Fulham are interested in signing Justin Kluivert from AS Roma this summer, there appears to be very little progress in negotiations.
Last week saw claims put forward that the Craven Cottage side were ready to offer €9.5m for the Dutchman.
Then came the idea that AS Roma were open to the idea of a loan with an option to buy, although we questioned that considering the forward’s contract with the Italians only runs until 2023.
That’s why what Corriere dello Sport claim on Monday makes the most sense, which starts off with the idea that Kluivert ‘should also find a new club this week’.
Fulham ‘seem to still be in pole position’, and the situation at the heart of it all ‘is the loan formula’.
The reason for this is that José Mourinho’s side ‘want the obligation to buy’, likely due to the fact they do not want to renew Kluivert to allow for a simple option to buy, guaranteeing themselves the money next season.
In short, it seems Fulham will either have to pay the money now or next season if they want to bring the winger to Craven Cottage, as Roma have no intention of letting him go out on loan without knowing he will leave them for good at the end of it.
