Real Betis are on the verge of signing Borja Iglesias from Espanyol for €28m. That’s the forward’s release clause so it’s a straightforward move for the verdiblancos.

They had been linked with Aleksandar Mitrovic in recent days, but it appears Iglesias just made more sense for Betis, and they weren’t prepared to spend as much on the Fulham player.

It’s claimed that Betis interest had been genuine, and it got so serious they submitted an offer to the Championship club. Fulham knocked back that bid, report Estadio Deportivo, which was worth €20m guaranteed and more when bonuses are included.

Estadio also claim that Mitrovic earns €4m a season at Fulham, after tax, and the insinuation is Iglesias will be on less once his Betis move is finalised.

The Espanyol player already being established in Spanish football was another plus for the Seville club, who will be aware that signing Mitrovic would be more of a gamble.
