Fulham Star André Schrrle was interviewed by ESPN Brasil this week.

By speaking to a Brazilian outlet, it was obvious he would have to talk about talk about the World Cup and Germany’s 7-1 win in the 2014 semifinals, in which he scored a brace.

But Schurrle has actually started with another clash between Brazil and Germany. He recalled the 2002 final, when the South Americans won 2-0.

“It was my first memory. Ronaldo scoring that goal, and me crying at home that Germany lost,” he told João Castelo Branco from ESPN Brasil.

Then he was able to comment on the 2014 title. And when asked if that was the peak of his career, he has no doubt about it.

“It is the highlight, and it will always be the main highlight of my whole career. Because there’s nothing more you can achieve as a player than winning the World Cup for your country.”

As he hasn’t been called up for the 2018 World Cup, he explains that he’s had many ups and downs since leaving Chelsea in 2015.

“I’ve had some good experiences, some bad experiences. I’ve had some injuries, some good games. You just try to keep on going, try to keep working hard, and try to do the best you can. And that’s what I was doing in the last four years.”

Finally talking about Fulham, he commented on Claudio Ranieri’s arrival to the club and what he needs to do to escape from the bottom of the table.

“It’s never easy to have a manager change in the middle of the season. Because you’re doing one thing at a moment, then the other thing when a new manager is there.  Obviously he saw our games, he knew what he had to change, the main thing is working on the defence being stable and hard to beat. That’s the main part of the moment.”

Now on Sunday, Schurrle faces his former club Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Back in 2014, when playing for the Blues, he scored a hat-trick against Fulham.
