Fulham’s Kenny Tete has again aired his frustrations with Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman, indicating he’s giving up on adding to his international caps because of him.
Voetbal International cover comments from the defender today after he spent the international break watching the Netherlands back at Fulham.
Tete has 14 appearances for his country after making his debut under Danny Blind in October 2015 but has now not appeared for them in three years.
His last appearance came in a World Cup qualifying defeat to Türkiye, sitting on the bench for the following games against Latvia and Gibraltar and then never returning to the squad.
He does not appear to be a part of current manager Ronald Koeman’s plans now or in future, despite being a regular in the Premier League for Fulham.
Tete has spoke out publicly in the past about his disappointment over that in the past, commenting at the beginning of last year that he didn’t understand Koeman’s thinking.
That’s a stance he’s now reiterated his stance and appears to have completely given up on the idea of representing his nation again while Koeman is in charge.
“We haven’t had any contact about it. I haven’t been there in four years, if not longer,” he said.
“I had a very good season two years ago. Also, offensive. The numbers don’t lie. I wasn’t there then either. Maybe I’m just not the type he’s looking for and that’s okay.
“Who knows, maybe I’ll get there again someday. But I’m not really focused on that. I focus on myself, and I really enjoy seeing how the boys are doing.”
