Fulham are in the picture to sign Sporting’s Geny Catamo, according to O Jogo.
Operating as a right wing-back and at times on the left, he’s managed two goals and two assists from 13 games this season.
The 22-year-old’s form hasn’t gone unnoticed as Fulham are one of the teams keeping tabs on him.
The Lions signed the player from third division Portuguese side Amora in 2022 and gave him a deal until 2025. The report states Sporting own 25% of his rights while the rest is held by his former club.
According to O Jogo, Sporting have made two offers of €1.2m and €1.5m to Amora, to have full control of the Mozambique international’s rights. They were unsuccessful, while the lower division side have considered accepting €3m for 75% of Catamo’s rights.
For now, the negotiations have frozen after Sporting refused to meet Amora’s demands, and the parties have agreed to revisit this case in 2024. Meanwhile, the player’s displays have seen him draw attention from Fulham and others.
With regards to Marco Silva’s side, it’s said they are ‘closely targeting’ Catamo and even contacted Amora to try to sign him. The manager is pushed forward as leading the interest.
Fulham’s approach didn’t yield a positive outcome since Amora won’t make a decision on the player’s future and leave it in the hands of Rúben Amorim’s side.
O Jogo say Sporting are ‘safeguarding their interests as they could have a jackpot on their hands’.
