Fulham are one of the clubs in the picture to sign Panathinaikos’ Georgios Vagiannidis in the summer window.

Last month, we covered claims from Portugal which stated Fulham have to battle with Sporting and Ajax for the right-back.

Monday’s edition of Record provides the latest on Fulham, Sporting and Ajax’s interest in the 23-year-old.

The Lions were unable to sign a new right-back in the winter market and would look to improve that position in the next window. The Greece international has been their main target, but they haven’t made advances yet.

Record state talks between the two clubs have stalled but not ended and that’s mainly because of the fullback’s price tag.

Panathinaikos want €14m including bonuses for the player while the Lisbon club find this figure to be high. Therefore, they have identified Juventus’ Alberto Costa as a new target to strengthen their defence next season.

Apart from the price, there are other clubs showing interest in Vagiannidis and this makes it ‘complicated’ for Sporting. The newspaper names Benfica, Fulham and Ajax as his other interested parties.

Marco Silva’s side and Ajax are ‘keeping a close eye on how the process unfolds’ around the Greek defender. They may be waiting for the right opportunity to make a decisive move.

Sporting shifting their focus on Alberto Costa should come as a boost for Fulham to sign Vagiannidis.
