There’s an open secret at Borussia Dortmund, explains German magazine SportBild, that when Jurgen Klopp left the club he agreed not to try and sign any player BVB wanted to keep.
The arrangement was made with Dortmund boss Hans Joachim Watzke, and Klopp shook hands on the pact.
SportBild think that agreement could be tested by Liverpool, either in the upcoming winter transfer window or next summer, and add: ‘The reason is called Christian Pulisic.’
The 18 year old right winger, who can also play on the left or through the middle, is receiving increasing attention. It’s claimed ‘almost all’ of Europe’s top clubs have Pulisic on their wanted list, and that includes Klopp’s Liverpool.
Whilst Liverpool have already signed Ragnar Klavan, Loris Karius and Joel Matip from the Bundesliga, a move for Pulisic would be rather more controversial.
Interestingly, it’s also pointed out Fenway Sports Group are fond of seeing an American at Anfield. FSG would potentially have a huge US star of years to come at Liverpool, and the kudos and marketing to come with that would be huge.
If other clubs come in and manage to turn Pulisic’s head, SportBild believe Dortmund would rather see him join Klopp at Liverpool, regardless of any previous agreement.
SportBild say Michael Zorc, Dortmund’s sporting director, is ‘relaxed’ about reports of a €30m Liverpool offer.
