In December it was reported by Germany’s SportBild that Liverpool were keen on Christian Pulisic. Jurgen Klopp was ready to forget any agreement not to go for BVB players, and Dortmund themselves were said to be of the opinion that if Pulisic was to leave it may as well be for Liverpool.

Liverpool’s owners FSG were said to be really keen on the potential transfer because it brought the prospect of seeing a US star at Anfield. That would not only give them kudos in the US, but also helped market the club there.

Pulisic signed a new contract in January and it doesn’t look like Liverpool will be able to tempt him soon, but there could be another option: This week’s SportBild magazine has a feature on Bobby Wood.

The 24 year old forward is in really good form for Hamburg and attracting interest from other Bundesliga clubs, and also from the Premier League. SportBild name Liverpool as one of the interested sides.

Here comes the FSG pleasing bit: Wood was born in Honolulu, moved to California, and then on to Germany for football. An experienced US international, Wood has the marketability FSG would like to combine with Liverpool.

It’s a nice coincidence that SportBild claim Liverpool are interested away, regardless of nationality.

Wood has been impressing recently and if Hamburg are relegated, a clause means he can leave for €5m. Should they remain in the Bundesliga, the price is €12m. A Klopp shake-up upfront could present a place for Wood in the squad.
