Catalan newspaper Sport once again have Philippe Coutinho as their cover star on Thursday, and claim Barcelona are set to present a new offer for the Liverpool player.
Despite a big headline detailing a €120m offer for the Brazilian, Sport then fail to actually mention that specifically in their article, which perhaps gives an idea of how much of an update it really is.
Putting up a cold front in the summer, it’s claimed Liverpool’s owners FSG are now reacting more warmly to talks about selling Coutinho. FSG are said to have made it known a January transfer is an option if Barcelona stump up €150m for the player.
On that note it’s added: ‘FC Barcelona has begun to start a new round of negotiations with the Yankee leaders, hoping this time for a positive conclusion’
Now Barcelona will set about trying to lower that €150m. Sport seem to think Coutinho being Champions League cup-tied is a negotiating lever in their favour.
However, that detail seems very much Barcelona’s problem rather than an issue Liverpool have to deal with.
Coutinho is currently away with the Brazil national squad, and these latest Catalan claims, with come via a Brazilian journalist, will almost certainly be picked up in the player’s home country.
