On transfer deadline day, Wolverhampton Wanderers signed Carlos Forbs from Ajax on a loan deal with an obligation to buy if certain set conditions are met.
A day later, De Telegraaf reported Wolves have to make the winger’s stay permanent for €13.5m if he makes 10 starts this season.
Voetbal International, relayed by Soccer News, now claim Ajax manager Francesco Farioli was ‘very disappointed’ with Forbs’ transfer to Wolves.
The Eredivisie side let the 20-year-old join the English club on a loan deal and sold Steven Bergwijn to Al-Ittihad on the same day. They tried to sign Kamaldeen Sulemana on loan, but the deal collapsed because the operation wasn’t completed before the window closed.
VI say Farioli has tried using Chuba Akpom, Owen Wijndal and Jaydon Banel on the left wing this season. It hasn’t worked out so far and the Dutch club ‘lose quality for various reasons’.
They add the Amsterdam club would have kept the Portugal U21 international had they known Al-Ittihad would arrive with a late offer for Bergwijn.
Fairoli is ‘very disappointed’ to have let Forbs join Wolves. The manager was ‘happy’ with the attacker’s ‘specific qualities, which fit exactly into the profile for that position’. VI point out Ajax’s financial report has suggested they had to raise funds through player sales.
Forbs has clocked in 137 minutes from four matches for Gary O’Neil’s side so far.
