Two days ago, we relayed news from Spain that ‘decisive’ performances from Liverpool’s Divock Origi and Tottenham’s Fernando Llorente in the Champions League saw them emerge as a transfer targets for Barcelona.
The front page of Mundo Deportivo now claims the Spurs striker, along with Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez, Sevilla star Wissam Ben Yedder, and Girona’s Cristhian Stuani have also been identified as No 9 targets.
Ernesto Valverde has 32-year-old Luis Suarez as his first choice striker, but due to his age and after going under the knife to fix a knee problem, he might need breaks next season.
For this reason, the La Liga winners are looking for a backup striker who knows the league very well and will be affordable.
Regarding Llorente, his contract at the north London club runs out in the summer and he will be available on a free transfer unless a new deal can be agreed.
The 34-year-old shares a good relationship with a few Barca players, having played together with La Roja and in the past, he had approached the Catalan club to see if they were interested.
The Spanish champions are also looking at other targets, but Llorente is the only one who is both potentially available for free and knows the league very well.
