Mexican newspaper Record brings some big news on their front page today.

According to the publication, Wolverhampton Wanderers are close to winning the race for America defender Edson Alvarez.

It’s claimed Wolves are offering an amount of US$13m, and even though the Mexican side believe they can get more money, the negotiations are developing and ‘advance firmly’.

There are two other clubs fighting for the signing, Record says. One of them is West Ham, whose bid is ‘15% lower than Wolves’. According to our maths, that’s about US$11m.

The third club are Ajax. Although their offer is lower than the others, they have the player’s preference, since they have a great sporting project and play in the Champions League.

Still, Record believes that money will be more important, and they sense Alvarez is moving to England, with Wolves getting the big advantage for now.

Their front page says the player is ‘about to howl’, and the fact that Wolves ‘need’ another Mexican star in the squad could help convince the club to increase their offer a little.

Record says this week should be decisive.
