On December 28th, Barcelona confirmed they’d reached an agreement with Manchester City for the transfer of Ferran Torres.

The forward is yet to feature for the La Liga side because he is currently isolating after testing positive for Covid-19. However, another reason is that the Catalan club cannot register him until they reduce their salary budget.

Two days ago, Lu Martín told Què T’hi Jugues the Blaugrana wanted to include a clause, which meant the 21-year-old would have to return to the Etihad, if they cannot register him for the second half of the season.

Mundo Deportivo have contacted sources close to the Spanish giants and have presented Barcelona’s stance on the aforementioned claims.

It’s claimed there was ‘impasse’ when the two clubs were negotiating the deal between December 27th and December 28th.

The Camp Nou sources say it was Pep Guardiola’s side, who wanted to ‘force automatic registration’ of Torres, after they sold him, and if not, the Spaniard will have to return to City. In response, they said ‘no’ to this clause as ‘no one could dictate to Barca when to register a player’.

Xavi Hernández’s side ‘suspect’ the Premier League winners ‘reluctantly agreed to sell’ because the player ‘directly asked’ Guardiola for a transfer. Manchester City ‘tried to put last-minute obstacles’, but it didn’t yield any result.

Meanwhile, the Barca sources have told Mundo that City have ‘right of first refusal’ on Torres for a potential future move, provided the player gives approval for the transfer.
