Following Carlos Corberán’s West Bromwich Albion exit, as the manager went on a quest of the heart to try and save Valencia from relegation, there’s been a search ongoing for his successor.

Multiple names have been linked with West Brom, with some of those seemingly thrown in just because people had asked for odds on them.

With René Hake it appears to be rather more serious.

The Dutchman had been one of Erik ten Hag’s assistants at Manchester United and left the club when it was decided the former Ajax manager needed to depart.

Not long after, in mid-December, Hake told the Dutch media he’d been the subject of plenty of attention almost immediately after leaving Manchester United.

The coach was quoted as saying: “Erik’s dismissal was barely known when I received calls from three or four clubs the same day to ask what was going on with me,” he said.

“I could have immediately gone for an interview for a job as head coach. I personally have no interest in status or boasting, but that is how the football world works. I still see myself as a head coach.”

Clearly not short of confidence, or a few bob since his Old Trafford pay off, Hake has been looking for a new opportunity since then.

Voetbal International, one of the best sources in the Netherlands, now reports Hake has spoken to West Brom about their managerial vacancy.

Hake isn’t the only option the Championship club are looking at, but it’s stated ‘clarity’ is soon expected on the situation.

It’s once again claimed Hake has plenty of interest from elsewhere anyway.
