On November 13th, The Guardian reported Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has agreed to sell the club to a consortium led by Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, the son of former Marseille owners Robert and Margarita.
Today’s edition of L’Equipe has relayed these claims and also provides details of the Black Cats’ potential takeover.
It’s claimed many supporters of Marseille are hoping for Kyle to own the club in the future, where his mother still retains a minority stake after selling the majority of shares to Frank McCourt.
Margarita has warned ‘KLD’ that he should first ‘cut his teeth’ in England, to takeover Sunderland.
Donald, who has cleared the League One side’s debts, has been approached by several interested parties to buy the club.
Juan Sartori, the minority shareholder of the English club, and KLD found an agreement with Donald to acquire 80 percent of Sunderland’s shares, with the current owner retaining 15 percent and Charlie Methven having five percent of the shares.
According to L’Equipe, the deal is in ‘final, so-called exclusivity phase’, and both Kyle and Sartori are ‘expected’ to officially buy Sunderland in early December.
