No need to check this post’s date to see if it’s from 2016. We’re coming with fresh news here. And today’s weird rumour is that Crystal Palace are interested in signing the Santos star Gabriel Barbosa, better known as Gabigol.
Yeah, we know you haven’t heard of him for a while. Signed by Inter Milan two years ago, the attacker never managed to succeed in European football. Not even at Benfica, where he’s spent six months on loan.
But well, things changed as soon as he returned to South America. Now back at Santos on a loan from Inter, Gabigol has 28 goals in 47 games this season, and has finally found some good form once again.
Now as the loan expires in December, agents are already moving to decide his future. UOL claims that Inter are not interested in keeping him, and that’s why they’ve been negotiating with Santos for a swap with young stars. But the representatives’ intention would be another one.
It’s Kia Joorabchian who’s handling things, and UOL says he’s already been approached by Crystal Palace. The London side would be a priority, because as the headline says, the agent is ‘working to put him in England’.
The report makes it sound like it’s in very early stages, but things do look good for Palace. They undoubtedly have more resources than Santos to land the player, and apparently, there’s not much competition for now. So let’s see how things develop.
