Starting off as a Chief Scout at MK Dons before moving to Southampton and Tottenham, Paul Mitchell then spent the next three years of his life, between 2017 and 2020, at in the Red Bull Group.
Starting off at RB Leipzig, where he will have met current Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick, before moving onto New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Bragantino, the 40-year-old is now at AS Monaco, where he has been director of football since June 17th 2020.
With the Red Devils previously in need of a man of his skillset, rumours of a move to Old Trafford were rife at one point, but it’s not something the talent spotter is seeking at this moment in time, very happy to continue in his attempt to turn the club’s fortunes around with Philippe Clement.
Mitchell said as much in an interview with Monaco-Matin, where he was asked directly if he wanted to team up with Rangnick again, this time at the Red Devils, recently being photographed with the Manchester United manager.
He said: “No, it’s just that I grew up there and so did my wife. My accent comes from there. A part of our family is based there, and my daughter has just bought her first house. I therefore go back there when I can. I’m proud to come from there.
“I will admit that every time I return, Ralf asks me to come for a coffee. We’re friends, close ones. We worked a lot together. We had success at Leipzig and travelled around the world. I had two free hours that day and, before returning to Monaco, I went to see the Youth Cup game with him.”
