Marcelo Bielsa has friends and disciples all over South America.
In a very varied coaching career, the Leeds United manager has certainly left a mark on many people, and keeps in contact with them. There’s been a whole line of contacts looking to visit the Argentine in Yorkshire and see how he’s getting on.
Ernesto Diaz Correa is one of the best known sport journalists in Chile, and the 55 year old has recently taken on a role as a professor, passing his knowledge down to future generations.
Speaking to La Hora newspaper, he explained he’s taken traits from his friend Bielsa with him into education, such as making sure his class is always prepared and disciplined.
Asked if he’s been speaking to the Leeds manager recently, Diaz gave a little insight into how Bielsa is getting on at Elland Road and what things have been changing: “I talked to him, the last thing we talked about was when he sent us a Leeds shirt to finish off the Telethon (a charity event). He is happy, and now communicates better with everyone, loves to give interviews, loves to talk more with the players, especially in training, he’s in a different stage.”
Communication was predicted to be an issue for Bielsa when he took over at the Championship club, but it doesn’t seem to have been much of a problem so far, with Leeds United currently top of the table.
