Emanuele Giaccherini’s transfer to Napoli is reportedly done.
According to Il Mattino, the player is expected to have his medical in Rome this Friday and will then sign a three-year contract.
Napoli are reportedly paying Sunderland a little less than €2m for the midfielder, who will earn €1.5m per season plus bonuses, with those figures likely to be after tax. The regional Naples newspaper says he’ll be training with the Italian side as soon as Monday.
Giaccherini signed for Sunderland from Juventus in 2013 for €7.5m. He leaves England after 43 appearances and five goals for the Black Cats.
The 31-year-old spent the last year on loan at Bologna, where his good season attracted the interest from Italian clubs. Antonio Conte relied on Giaccherini as Italy manager, and this only served to help his reputation in Italy grow further, and it’s a wonder why Sunderland couldn’t get a better fee.
